The Illinois legislature has adjourned. Several gun bills were introduced and I wanted to update you on their status.
A conceal carry bill was introduced in the Illinois House. House Bill (HB) 5221 creates the Family and Personal Protection Act. The Illinois State Police would be allowed to issue permits to a person 21 or older who meets certain requirements. The bill did not advance, but it is encouraging that this type of legislation is continuing to be introduced. I support the legislation.
HB 180, which creates the Handgun Dealers Licensing Act, also did not move. This bill would prohibit anyone from selling a concealable firearm without being licensed.
HB 5495 would prohibit multiple sales of handguns within a 30-day period and that bill did not advance.
I will keep you posted on any changes on these types of issues in the State Capitol.
Sincerely,
Dan Rutherford
State Senator

This is a great video that explains the Broken Window Fallacy by Frederic Bastiat. It also shows you how ignorant Paul Krugman really is.
“When plunder becomes a way of life for a group of men living together in society, they create for themselves in the course of time a legal system that authorizes it and a moral code that justifies it.”
- Frederic Bastiat
Every now and then, the truth comes out. Now this woman, probably a TEA Partier because she’s articulate and she knows her constitution, couldn’t have done a better job asking Rep. Peter Stark -Democrat- these questions. I think Unemployment needs to be felt in the Government this November.
Peter Stark: — The Federal Government can do most anything in this country.
In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control.
From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend
themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

In 1911, Turkey established gun control.
From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend
themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Germany established gun control in 1938.
From 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews and others who were unable to

From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend

You won’t see this data on the US evening news, or hear politicians
disseminating this information.
Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes,
gun-control laws adversely affect only the law-abiding citizens.
Take note my fellow Americans, before it’s too late!
The next time someone talks in favor of gun control, please remind them of this history lesson.
With guns, we are ‘citizens’. Without them, we are ‘subjects’.
During WWII the Japanese decided not to invade America because they knew most Americans were ARMED!
If you value your freedom, please spread this anti gun-control message to all of your friends.
The purpose of fighting is to win.
There is no possible victory in defense.
The sword is more important than the shield, and
skill is more important than either.
The final weapon is the brain.
All else is supplemental.
Switzerland issues every household a gun!
Switzerland’s government trains every adult they issue a rifle.
Switzerland has the lowest gun related crime rate of any civilized country in the world!!
It’s a no brainer!
Don’t let our government waste millions of our tax dollars in an effort to make all law abiding citizens an easy target.
I’m a firm believer in the 2nd Amendment!
If you are too, please forward.
This is a must see for all patriots! Even though it is from 1964, it is still one of the most timely speeches of our time.
This is just unbelievable. I remember a time when everyone complained about wire tapping and accused the Bush administration of violating our civil rights, but when it’s financial tapping, as it is in this case – all you hear are crickets. Open your bank accounts because here comes big Gov. We can’t ask illegals for papers but when it comes to American Citizens, they can ask for any of your private info without probable cause. Elections have consequences. This is unconstitutional and violates the 4th amendment which states:
“The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.”
At least illegals in Arizona have to be stopped for violating an existing law before they are asked for papers. If this passes the Senate next week, all they have to do is profile us and demand that we show them everything. This is exactly what they are trying to project onto all of their opponents and they are passing it themselves. The Statists like Saul Alinski use this as a strategy to distract everyone. It’s like a chess game; you’re watching the pawn that is being threatened when your queen is about to be taken. Ignore what they say and watch what they are doing. And what they are doing is trampling on our civil rights and labeling everyone else the bad guys. Curious how there hasn’t been any kind of coverage on this topic and it’s one of the worst that I’ve seen. I’ve said that before but this really is getting worse every day. Please contact your reps and Senators. I know that it will probably be a wasted email but it has to be done.
The Article explaining it is here:
Financial Regulatory Bill Approved by House Gives Feds Power to Subpoena Any Record from Any Financial Institution Without Establishing Any Probable Cause

Happy Independence Day!!!!
I thought I’d include a nice little lesson on the Declaration of Independence for you. Have a great holiday weekend and be safe!
Where is our Reset button, I want to change it back! And why are our enemies the only ones that this administration want’s to make a deal with? The Answer is that they don’t represent us anymore; they represent themselves.
There isn’t much more I can say about this article because it says it all. Our government is with out a doubt working for it’s own interests and disregarding it’s citizens who have given them their power. It’s also corrupted the NRA (a long time conservative ally) who is making deals with our corrupt, leftist representatives and Senators. Rumors say that the NRA may even endorse Harry Reid in the coming days. It’s enough to make me sick.
It’s time for an American Reset button and the first one will be pressed in November.
Read this article and pass it on.
Today, in a 5-4 decision, the U.S. Supreme Court struck down Chicago’s handgun ban and ruled that the Second Amendment right to bear arms applies to every state in the Union. It is a victory for our Constitution, for freedom, and for the safety of our families.
Earlier today, before the Supreme Court announced its decision, I was targeted in an article on the Huffington Post website by a supporter of my opponent, Jan Schakowsky. He criticized my belief that “the right to bear arms is essential for our freedom.” It turns out that my view is shared by the Supreme Court. Ms. Schakowsky has long tried to restrict the right to bear arms. She is clearly on the wrong side of the U.S. Constitution.
I believe in the Second Amendment because I know the importance of self-defense. I was once attacked by a would-be mugger who told me he would kill me if I did not hand over my cell phone. Instinctively, I fought the man and stunned him, then hailed a passing group of armed private security guards (I called the police but they did not arrive). We arrested him and brought him to the police station. He was later tried and convicted.
More recently, I learned that a woman in my community who owns a small business was robbed twice at gunpoint in her store. On the last occasion, she called the police, but they did not catch the thief, who had threatened to kill her. She has a licensed firearm at home, but could not bring it to her store because of gun control ordinances. For her, the fear of not being able to protect herself was the worst part of the entire ordeal.
If Chicago’s handgun ban were working, we would not be experiencing a terrible wave of deadly shootings. In most of the country, crime is dropping, but in Chicago it is going up, owing partly to a lack of leadership and to corruption at senior levels of government. Crime often goes down when law-abiding citizens are able to protect themselves, and where there is a serious commitment by politicians to help police enforce the law.
It is worrying that President Obama’s new Supreme Court nominee, Elena Kagan, has a record of opposing Second Amendment rights. In her days as a Supreme Court clerk, she recommended that the Court refuse to hear a case on a handgun bun just like the ban that was overturned today. Ms. Kagan must be asked if her views have changed, or whether she will try to reinterpret the Constitution to suit her earlier views on handguns.
The Supreme Court agrees that the right to bear arms is essential to our freedom. The Constitution applies in Chicago, too–and we need representatives who will uphold it.
